A Few of My Favorite Places in the City I Call Home
I have lived in New York for over fifteen years and I am still adding to this list. That’s the thing about this city: there is always something new to explore. You think you know your neighborhood, and then something opens two blocks away and suddenly you are rearranging your entire routine around a new latte and a vintage store.
This city shaped how I see things. My aesthetic, my personal style, the way I see design. So much of that came from just watching New Yorkers and being exposed to so much. I do not take that for granted.
Here’s a few places in my black book I keep returning to and the ones I have recently discovered. A mix of fashion, food, design and art.
Fashion and Beauty
This is where I go when I want to find something I did not know I was looking for. The edit here is genuinely good, so many strong designer pieces that no one else will be wearing. A must-stop.
Genuinely one of my top two favorite jewelry brands. I have loved Sophie's work for a long time, and when they opened a showroom in New York I had to see it. Not only is the jewelry cool but timeless, the store itself is beyond chic. Art deco perfection. I have been eyeing these earrings for a while, perfect for an event and a forever classic. I also love this jewelry case and the color is something I don’t already own, truly a piece that could live on your nightstand as decor.
The New York City Showroom
One of my favorite New York brands, full stop. The clothes have a quality of restraint that is very hard to come by. I love the wearability of her designs, but the fabrics and details make each piece feel special. I have this top and wear it often (on sale!!). Also in love with this dress, perfect for my upcoming trip to Paris. And this red jean is currently also in my cart.
A great destination to see the newest in beauty, and worth going in person. I am fully obsessed with this hair serum. Being newly postpartum, it completely brought my hair back. I have also repurchased this Agent Nateur deodorant more times than I can count. And if you have not heard of Eighth Day yet, this serum is worth every penny.
They just opened a new store in the Hamptons, designed in collaboration with Atelier Artizan, an expert in metalworking. I am dying to see it.
Food
Butterfield Market
If you thought Happier Grocery was the epitome of it-grocery stores, head to Butterfield Market around 1pm on a weekday and reconsider. The produce, the prepared food, you really can’t go wrong. Being in there is an experience with excellent people watching. This is my go to quick lunch spot.
Rigor Hill Market
A Tribeca spot with a CULT following. You’ll find the best sandwiches, coffee, salad bits and fashion here.
Borgo
There are a lot of Italian restaurants in New York. This should be your first choice.
The Crosby Bar
My mom and I have a tradition every Mother's Day: we go for high tea together. With two young girls, a quiet, decadent meal alone with her is rare. This year we went to The Crosby Bar at the Crosby Street Hotel in Soho, designed by Kit Kemp, and it was such a lovely surprise. Whimsical, inspiring, full of contemporary art and exceptional people watching. The details are endless. Highly recommend.
Wearing this coat on repeat, and my favorite summer bag, sold out but similar here
Laser Wolf
I did not expect to love this restaurant as much as I did. My husband and I went on a last-minute date night a few weeks ago, and the food blew us away. We had the steak and the ocean trout. My husband said it was one of the best steaks he has ever eaten, and he is Argentine, so that is saying something. The food is generous and the views are even better.
Home and Design
Salter House
I am drawn here for the same reasons I am drawn to the best vintage: pieces that have a real point of view. You can find antiquities and small designer objects, everything from napkins to nightgowns, and sip a cappuccino from their cafe while you browse. I have found so many good accessories for projects here over the years.
One of my go-to spots for gift giving and whenever I need to bring something new in my kitchen. So many good pieces, from dish ware to candles. I can spend hours here. Just purchased this serving set, and about to get this hat for our family beach days in CT this summer.
Danny Kaplan Studio
The most beautiful glazed ceramic lighting, and now expanding into other materials and forms. A Brooklyn-based design studio focused on lighting and sculptural furniture, everything handmade to order. The glaze work stops you. I come here for inspiration, and am currently sourcing a pair of lamps for a project. More on that soon!
That’s it for Now!
